Healthy Schools Scheme
The Healthy Schools Scheme is an exciting and long term Welsh Assembly Government Initiative, which aims to actively promote and protect Health. This includes all aspects of Health: physical, emotional, and mental and social, and the wellbeing of the whole school community.
Grange has achieved all phases of the Healthy Schools Scheme, and continues to promote all aspects in its daily practice.
The school provides a daily ‘Breakfast Club’ between 8:00am and 8:45 a.m, which is managed by Miss Maskell, Senior Breakfast Club Supervisor and Mrs Watkins, Breakfast Club Supervisor. Children are offered toast, fruit juice, milk and a selection of cereals, yoghurts and fruit. Parents are reminded of the importance of giving their child a good breakfast before coming to school. Evidence suggests that children who have the opportunity to eat a healthy and nutritious breakfast prior to the start of the school day are more likely to have a greater sustained concentration and achieve their full potential.
School meals are cooked on the school premises. At present school meals cost £2.20 a week. Increases occur from time to time but parents are informed in advance. Payments for meals should be made in advance via the school office, no arrears are tolerated. Parents in receipt of income support should complete an application form to receive entitlement for their child to have free meals.
